Beauty Lessons You Need To Know
With so many products, advice and beauty gurus out there, how do we really know what to do, what’s best for us and what advice to follow? We certainly aren’t biased here at bare beauty Australia and we certainly don’t expect everyone to take our advice as gospel but we have been around the beauty traps for a while now and can recommend a few staple beauty lessons you need to know.
Let’s start with 12 simple lessons that will have you saying “aha” in no time!
BEAUTY LESSON NUMBER 1
Stick to a skincare regime. A little obvious but so many of us get this one a little bit wrong. Even if you think you have amazing skin, there will still be areas that need attention and even more so as we age. A simple cleanse, tone and moisturise routine will do the trick and always ensure that you love the skin you are in with consistent love and care.
BEAUTY LESSON NUMBER 2
Sunscreen should be a priority! ALWAYS! Wearing a moisturiser or a BB cream with an SPF every day will do wonders for your skin, especially as we age. Sunscreen creates a shield to prevent UVA and UVB rays from reaching the skin and keep it safe from the harmful effects of UV radiation.
BEAUTY LESSON NUMBER 3
Good brows can change your face. Were you an over-plucker in the 80s and 90s? If your answer is yes, then you would know how important a great pair of brows are! And like most of us, if they just don’t want to grow back to their full potential, rest assured there are many solutions out there for us now. With products ranging from pencils to brow stencil kits and even the option to recreate our amazing features with tattooing. Make sure that your brows are always looking their very best. You will thank us later!
BEAUTY LESSON NUMBER 4
Always remove your makeup before bed. Even when you really can not be bothered. If there is one thing to do every single day without fail in your beauty routine it is most definitely this one! Falling asleep with a face full of foundation and eyes like Cleopatra is always a bad idea. Not only will your makeup clog your pores but it will increase your chances of a breakout (yes even for us older ladies!) Our skin goes through the most important regenerative stage at night, so it will become duller over time if you don’t give it a chance to breathe.
BEAUTY LESSON NUMBER 5
Don’t take all beauty recommendations as gospel. Even from us! Do you often feel a little overwhelmed with all of the recommendations, social media posts, television commercials and billboards? There are so many different beauty products on the market and for very good reason. Everyone has different skin and beauty needs so it is always best to test test test! What works for one may not work for another and of course it’s always beneficial to make a visit to see a professional for a skin analysis.
BEAUTY LESSON NUMBER 6
Black eyeliner is usually the answer. Some trends will just never go out of style and a perfect winged eye will always put a pep in your step and make you feel that little bit more confident. Try it next time you are feeling a bit glum.
BEAUTY LESSON NUMBER 7
Never wash your hair daily. It might seem like a no brainer but some of us still do it! Over-washing can strip your hair of all it’s natural oils, leaving hair thinner and more prone to breakage. If you are feeling like your hair may need a bit of help and it’s only been 2 days since your last wash, reach for that dry shampoo. It was invented to help save us all!
BEAUTY LESSON NUMBER 8
Trends are not everything. With the ever increasing popularity of beauty influencers sometimes us mere mortals can get a little bit lost of what beauty trend to look for and even stick to. Always remember that not every trend will suit you and that’s 100% a-ok! Give a new look a go but not every trend is for everyone.
BEAUTY LESSON NUMBER 9
Less is best. Whenever in doubt always opt for the best is less option or an au-natural no makeup at all look. True beauty comes from within and this is a non-negotiable. No amount of makeup can change that.
BEAUTY LESSON NUMBER 10
Take it easy on your skin. Be gentle with yourself, especially when it comes to your skin. Daily cleansing, toning and moisturising is a beauty must but ensure to stay clear of daily exfoliation and rough and extra gritty products.
BEAUTY LESSON NUMBER 11
Don’t fight your features. Embrace what you have! Find out what products work best for your face shape, skin type and needs and go with it. It is very easy to compare ourselves to other people and to wish we had what they have or even look more like them. Remember, we are all unique in our own way. Love being you and start to love the skin you are in.
BEAUTY LESSON NUMBER 12
You define your own beauty. Once again, most of us are guilty for comparing ourselves to others and with the rise of the social media influencer we can all sit back and wish we had what they have or had the perfect bone structure. We all have the power to decide what makes us feel beautiful and confident. Beauty shines from within and if a winged eye helps you shine bright, go for it. If a red lipstick puts an extra pep in your step, pucker up! Most of all, enjoy the beauty you have within and shine bright.
